PROSE & POETRY READING WITH LAN SAMANTHA CHANG, NAN COHEN, AND KYOKO MORI
Our members are the key to our success and we are so grateful for your support. As a way of saying thank you, we present a series of readings with nationally acclaimed artists that are open only to our members. These late afternoon gatherings are the perfect way to begin your evening. Wine, non-alcoholic beverages, and light refreshments will be available, with great company guaranteed. This month, we are proud to present award-winning writers Lan Samantha Chang, Nan Cohen, and Kyoko Mori in an intimate reading and conversation with you, our members.

Lan Samantha Chang ’s new novel, The Family Chao , was published by W. W. Norton in February, 2022. She is the author of two previous novels, All Is Forgotten, Nothing Is Lost and Inheritance , and a story collection, Hunger . Her short stories have appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, Ploughshares, and The Best American Short Stories . She has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, and the American Academy in Berlin. Chang is the director of the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop. She lives with her husband and daughter in Iowa City, Iowa. For more information, visit her website.
Nan Cohen is the author of two full-length poetry collections, Rope Bridge (2005) and Unfinished City (2017), and a chapbook, Thousand-Year-Old Words (2021). Her work has appeared widely in magazines and anthologies, including in Ploughshares , Poet Lore , Poetry International , The New Republic , and Slate. The recipient of a Wallace Stegner Fellowship, a Rona Jaffe Writer’s Award, and a Literature Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, she has taught at Stanford University, Gettysburg College, the University of Southern California, the UCLA Extension Writers’ Program, and the University of Virginia Young Writers Workshop. She lives in Los Angeles and directs the poetry programs of the Napa Valley Writers’ Conference.
Kyoko Mori ’s award-winning first novel, Shizuko’s Daughter, was hailed by The New York Times as “a jewel of a book, one of those rarities that shine out only a few times in a generation.” Her many critically acclaimed books include Yarn, Polite Lies, The Dream of Water (nonfiction) and Stone Field True Arrow and One Bird (fiction). Her essays and short stories have appeared in The American Scholar, the Harvard Review, the Kenyon Review, and the Best American Essays , among others. She has taught at Harvard University and Goucher College and is currently on the faculty of George Mason University and Lesley University’s Low-Residency MFA Program in Creative Writing. She lives in Washington, DC.
