It has sometimes been said that Character = Plot, that interesting characters on their own will drive the narrative of a story. We know that the best books make us feel deeply invested in the characters. That dull books leave you wondering,  why should I care ? So, how do you do it? How can you describe a character so that readers will not just see them but feel their presence? How can you avoid using the dreaded "driver's license description:" female, 5'7", brown hair, glasses? And what if you want it to be funny? This workshop will address strategies for creating and describing interesting characters, based on people you know and people you invent. This offering is applicable for writers of both fiction and nonfiction and time will be spent trying out various techniques. (We'll include special tips for those writing memoir who fear being bannded from future family holidays if they do the job wrong!)
