Amy Hennings is the newest member of the Write On, Door County team, serving as Executive Director. She and her family moved full‑time to Door County in 2023, where they enjoy the outdoors including hiking, boating, and exploring whenever possible. Amy first discovered Write On through her daughter, a longtime participant in the Kids WOW writing workshops, and through the poetry displayed along the Newport State Park Poetry Trail.
For more than twenty years, Amy has been a successful not‑for‑profit leader and psychology professor. She has consulted with organizations across Milwaukee, Chicago, and Door County, helping strengthen leadership teams, develop policies and procedures, guide strategic planning, organize fundraising efforts, and support grant writing. As an educator, she has mentored thousands of students, from bachelor’s to doctorate levels, in developing and refining their writing.
Amy earned her doctoral degree in Educational Psychology from Walden University in Minneapolis and her master’s degree in psychological counseling from St. Mary’s University in Minnesota. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in both Illinois and Wisconsin.
Throughout her career, Amy has provided advocacy, voice, and support to survivors of abuse and trauma, as well as individuals at risk of having their stories marginalized. At Write On, Amy continues to champion the power of storytelling. She encourages people of all backgrounds to discover, shape, and share their voices through writing and reading, ensuring that stories of every kind have a place to be heard.
